From Mumbai you might have to hire a van or a car to get to the base village of Rajmachi.
I doubt if the rented car driver will take you till the base of the fort as the road from Della Adventure to the base of the fort is extremely bad. Its almsot like a offroading track.
You might have to ask him to stop at Della Adventure park and from there the base of the fort is approximately 16kms away. The road is pretty bad and you will have to walk/hike for 16kms.
Though, 16kms sounds pretty time consuming, it is not. You will definitely enjoy the views enroute [plenty of valleys, waterfalls].
Rajmachi is heaven in Lonavala.
